Purpose

The purpose of the Recreation Services Division is to provide a safe, fun and well maintained environment for the residents of Clayton County to actively participate in recreation programs.

Overview

The Division staffs and operates four recreation centers within (Jim Huie/Steve Lundquist Recreation Center includes a natatorium- Jonesboro, GA; Virginia Burton Gray Recreation Center includes an indoor swimming pool- Riverdale, GA; South Clayton Recreation Center includes an outdoor pool, Hampton, GA; and Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center includes an outdoor pool, Rex, GA. The recreation centers offer a variety of classes, programs and activities to youth, teens, adults and seniors. Programs include, but are not limited, to instructional classes, swim lessons, after school, summer camp, therapeutic recreation programs and special events.

Synopsis

The Division is comprised of 20 full time employees, 65 part time employees, 37 instructors and 71 seasonal employees. Lead by the Recreation Administrator, each center is staffed with a Center Manager, program staff, office staff and maintenance staff. Additionally, there is a Special Programs Manager that oversees the implementation of the after school, teen and summer camp programs, as well as Division wide special events.
